BeforeAfter
MJA Allround Bouw paints homes and business premises in Stavoren, and worked here on the harbour crane with a cherry picker and scaffolding. We are about 9 km away in Mirns as the crow flies. Stavoren has almost twice as many windy days as Leeuwarden, so planning and prep count extra here.
Updated on 30 October 2026A painter in Stavoren who already knows the harbour up close
Stavoren is not unknown territory for us: we have had the harbour crane in hand here, with cherry picker and scaffolding. That is not everyday work, but it shows what we can handle. Most of the work in and around the town is ordinary: exterior window frames, front doors, fascia boards, cladding and interior work.
Our address in Mirns is about 9 km from the harbour as the crow flies. You have Mohamed Ajubi as your contact, for a private home just as for a business premises. The crane itself is described at the Stavoren harbour crane project.
The oldest town in Friesland also gets the most wind
Stavoren is known as the oldest town in Friesland, one of the Eleven Cities and home of the Vrouwtje van Stavoren. Its position on the IJsselmeer shows mostly in the wind. We have lined up the KNMI measurements for 2016 to 2025:
| Average per year | Stavoren | Leeuwarden |
|---|---|---|
| Days with wind force 6 Beaufort or more | 66.1 | 36.9 |
| Suitable painting days, strict measure | 85.7 | 84.4 |
The number of suitable days is almost the same, but wind makes working at height harder. The figures per month are at painting weather in Friesland.

The prep the harbour crane demanded
The structure of the crane had rust and old paint that had to be treated first. Only then did a new coat make sense. On a smaller scale that applies to every piece of metal at the harbour, from railings to door fittings. We worked there with a cherry picker and scaffolding, so we could reach everywhere.
At painting at height you can read which method we use when. Do you have a tall building, a warehouse or a structure on the water? Send a photo and we will see what is needed to reach it well and safely.
Business premises by the harbour or the ferry side
Around the marinas, the Johan Frisosluis and the ferry to Enkhuizen, a lot revolves around tourism and watersports. A well-kept façade is part of your calling card there, and a building often has to stay open during the work. That is why we tailor the planning to how you run your business, outside the busiest weeks if possible.
For businesses we also do the interior work, such as walls and ceilings in an office or reception area. On business premises Dutch VAT is 21 percent; for a mixed-use property it has been split since 1 July 2025. There is more at commercial painting.
Home in the old centre, or in Warns
In the centre of Stavoren, small houses stand close together, often with woodwork that has seen many coats of paint. There it pays to look first at what is underneath. If there is any doubt about old lead-based paint, we do not sand dry. On the waterfront, scaffolding is sometimes hard to place as well.
You can also come to us in Warns, a few kilometres inland towards the Rode Klif. There are more detached homes and farmhouses with barge boards. The open land brings the same wind, but the work is generally easier to reach. That helps with the set-up and so with the quote.
This is what we want to know before we come
A photo says more than a long email. Send us images of all walls and of the spots that worry you. Give the year of construction, the number of window frames and doors, and when the last painting was. If you have a business premises, also mention opening hours or days when it really does not suit.
If it concerns a structure or something unusual, a sketch with rough dimensions helps. We discuss the colours during the site visit, because on a screen a shade often looks different from on your façade in the full light of the IJsselmeer.
Price factors on the waterfront
Height, wind and access weigh more heavily here than in a sheltered street. If a cherry picker has to come, or the scaffolding stands on a quay, you see that in the price. The condition of the surface counts too: rust or wood rot costs more prep than lacquer that has just gone dull.
Nationally, exterior painting starts from €35 per m2 and wood rot repair from €50 per spot. That is a market guide, not our price. At MJA you get a fixed price after the site visit, and our own scaffolding carries no daily hire.

Who comes to work for you
MJA Allround Bouw is a painting and maintenance company from Mirns, a member of OnderhoudNL and a recognised training company. We have our own scaffolding equipment and bring in a cherry picker where needed. Customers give us an average of 4.8 from 25 reviews on Google and often mention that we respond quickly and mask neatly. For a small business or a holiday home at a distance we keep it that way too: one person you can call, and agreements that are on paper.
The way we work is simple: you tell us your plans, we look at everything on site, you get a fixed quote and after the work we check together that it is right.
Arranging your painting in Stavoren in good time
In Stavoren June and August are the most reliable months: then we count on average more than 15 suitable days, against only 4.7 in October. If you want to be ready before summer, start planning in winter. For a business on the harbour that is certainly sensible.
If the wind gets too strong on a planned day, we move on. Dust then blows onto wet lacquer and working at height is not responsible. So we would rather give a schedule with some slack than a date that cannot be met.
