"Clear information about the work on our dormer. Good communication. A partly less successful result was still repaired perfectly."
Major House Maintenance in Grou: Wood Rot and Trespa
In Grou we fully renovated a detached house together with BW Coating. Wood rot was treated, Trespa was worked and everything was painted in the colour the client chose, with paint from Herfst & Helder. Timber, panels and paint were all done in one go.
Major house maintenance in Grou: the whole shell in one go
We fully renovated this detached house in Grou together with BW Coating. It was more than a coat of paint. Wood rot was expertly treated, the Trespa was worked and then everything was crisply painted in the colour the client chose themselves. The paint comes from Herfst & Helder.
If you do it all at once, you do not need three different people coming round and everything fits together. In the photos you can see the window frames with breast panels, the front door with its porthole window and the taped-off windows just before the topcoat. If you want to arrange this on a regular basis, a long-term maintenance plan (MJOP) makes that possible.
Trespa and timber on one facade: that is the puzzle
A facade with both timber and Trespa needs two kinds of preparation. Timber has to be sound: what is rotten gets repaired or replaced. Trespa can be painted, but only after proper pretreatment. Skip that, and the paint bonds less well.
The end result still has to look like one whole, even though the materials differ. Grou also lies on the water, with wind and moisture hitting a detached house freely. You can see that in the condition of the old paintwork, and it differs from facade to facade.
Planning major maintenance yourself? Start here
Take photos of all the facades, plus close-ups of spots with flaking paint or soft timber. Mention the year of construction and when it was last painted, as far as you know. If you have Trespa or other panels on the facade, add that too. At a site visit we look at the substrate and discuss the colour.
The price depends mainly on the number of facades, how much wood rot there is, and whether panel work is involved. The national market indication for exterior painting is from €35 per m2. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit, so no open-ended costs.

How we tackled it
Inspection: first look at the whole shell
With major maintenance you do not look at one window frame, but at the whole house. We walk past all the facades, look at where the wood rot is and what the Trespa needs, and discuss the colour. After that the client knows exactly what goes on the quote.
Execution: rot, Trespa, then the paint
First the wood rot was treated and the Trespa worked. Only when that was done was everything painted in the colour chosen by the client, with paint from Herfst & Helder. Window frames were neatly taped off before the topcoat. You can see that clearly in the photos.
Handover: one walk around the house
After the last coat the tape comes off and we walk around the house together. We look closely at the window frames, the front door with its porthole window and the glazing beads. Anything that stands out is dealt with before the job is finished.

Frequently asked questions
Can Trespa really be painted?
Yes, Trespa can be painted after proper pretreatment. That is how we did it in Grou. Whether it works for your panels, we check at the site visit.
What is the advantage of doing major maintenance in one go?
Everything fits together and you do not have to plan several jobs. The scaffolding also only has to come once. The quote shows exactly which work is included.
Do I choose the colour myself?
Yes. This house in Grou was painted in the colour chosen by the client. During the site visit we think along with you, because on a facade a colour often looks different from how it looks on a colour card.
