Updated on 30 October 2026A painter in Workum for one room or a whole house
For us, Workum means interior work of the thorough kind. We did an interior renovation here that ran from ceiling to skirting boards, so everything in one go. You can do that too: a room, a floor or the whole house. We do exterior painting here just as well, from window frames and doors to fascia boards.
Our address in Mirns is about 15 km from Workum as the crow flies. We work with no go-betweens: Mohamed Ajubi comes to look himself, makes the agreements and is there at the handover too. If you want a broader overview, read everything that falls under interior painting with us.
Behind the Merk: old houses with their own quirks
Workum is an Eleven Cities town that used to lie on the Zuiderzee and owes its prosperity to it. Around the Merk you find the Waag from 1650 and the Sint-Gertrudiskerk with its detached tower, and the town is also known for the Jopie Huisman Museum and Workum pottery. The long main street runs along the waterway, with narrow, deep houses.
Inside you notice that age. Ceilings are not always flat, walls show small cracks and skirting boards have often been painted over. Sometimes there is lead in old layers, and then we do not sand dry. A new colour alone does not solve that. That is why we start with the surface, and only then look at the colour.

The order for an interior renovation from ceiling to skirting boards
A whole space calls for a fixed order. That way you avoid damaging today's work again tomorrow:
- first clear out and cover up, floors and whatever stays
- then the ceiling: the highest surfaces first, see also having a ceiling painted
- then the walls, possibly with lining paper (renovlies) or glass fibre as a base
- sand, prime and lacquer window frames and interior doors
- last the skirting boards, so they stay nice and crisp
We fill the seams before the topcoat, so the transitions come out crisp. It is only finished once we have walked through the rooms together and you are happy.
Cracks in old walls: lining paper or glass fibre wallpaper
If you have a wall with lots of small cracks, applying wall paint alone does not help. After a season you see them again. Lining paper (renovlies) and glass fibre wallpaper give a sturdy, even layer under which small cracks disappear. On that layer you can then apply wall paint in the colour you want. That often works well in an old house that still moves a little.
Large cracks or loose plaster do not belong under a layer of fleece, we look at those separately. During the site visit we show you what is possible. A good explanation of the options is at wallpaper and lining paper. One customer even had us finish a 150 m2 new-build apartment with glass fibre wallpaper and wall paint, so we know how that goes at scale.
It Soal, Hindeloopen and Parrega
On the edge of Workum lies It Soal, the recreation area on the IJsselmeer that draws surfers and watersports enthusiasts. Around that spot are holiday homes that often take a lot of wind. South and west sides are due sooner there. If you rent the house out, plan the exterior work in spring and the interior work in winter, so everything is ready for the season.
A little to the south lies Hindeloopen, also an Eleven Cities town and famous for its painted furniture. Inland lies Parrega, with more farmhouses and open land. The same approach and the same contact apply to all these places, and here too you get a fixed price after the site visit.
What you can tell us in advance
For interior work, a few details are enough for good preparation. Send photos of every room, including the ceiling and any spots with cracks or damp patches. Give the length, width and height of each room, or a floor plan if you have one. Tell us which window frames, doors and skirting boards are included, and whether the house is lived in during the work. If you see damp patches, also tell us whether they are getting bigger, because paint does not fix a leak.
For exterior work the same applies as elsewhere: photos of all walls, the year of construction and the last time it was painted. During the site visit we look at the surface and agree the colours and the planning, so you know exactly what will happen when.

What decides interior work in an old Workum house
The amount of prep makes the biggest difference, followed by the height and the number of windows and doors. The national market guides for interior work are:
| Item | Market guide |
|---|---|
| Walls | from €15 per m2 |
| Ceiling | from €18 per m2 |
| Interior frame | from €35 each |
| Lining paper or glass fibre | from €15 per m2 |
Those are not MJA prices. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit. Read more about what interior painting costs. Wallpaper may fall under a different VAT rate, and we list that item by item on the quote.
Tackling your house in Workum together
In our reviews, 4.8 on Google from 25, we often read that customers appreciate the neat masking and the help with colours. For interior work in a lived-in house, those two count for extra. MJA is a member of OnderhoudNL and a recognised training company, and works with Sikkens, Sigma and Wijzonol.
Tell Mohamed what you have in mind on 06 3006 0558, by WhatsApp or with the form. Interior work is not tied to the season, so winter is a perfectly good moment too.
Would you rather work in phases, the ground floor first and the rest later? That is possible too. Then we list the parts separately on the quote, so you choose what to do first. That is handy if you are staying in the house.
Send a few photos and your plans. After the site visit you get a fixed quote, with no surprises.

Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.
Can you paint the inside of a whole house in Workum?
Yes. We did an interior renovation here from ceiling to skirting boards. It can also be done per room or per floor, whatever you prefer.
What is better against small cracks: lining paper or glass fibre wallpaper?
Both hide small cracks and form a tight base for wall paint. Which suits best depends on the wall and the finish you want. We look at that during the site visit.
What does interior painting cost in Workum?
As a national market guide, walls start from €15 per m2 and ceilings from €18 per m2. A lot of prep costs more. At MJA you get a fixed price after the site visit.
Do I have to move out while you paint?
No, that is usually not necessary. We work room by room and cover whatever stays. With water-based paint you have less smell indoors.
Do you also do holiday homes near It Soal?
Yes, holiday homes are welcome too. We tailor the work to your rentals, for example interior work in winter. Send photos beforehand and we will look at what is needed.
