"Clear information about the work on our dormer. Good communication. A partly less successful result was still repaired perfectly."
High Gloss Exterior Painting in Sneek, RAL 7016 and 9010
In Sneek we finished a house in autumn in RAL 7016 and RAL 9010, with Sikkens Express High Gloss. The paint gave good coverage and deep shine, even in that season. The work was well prepared first and then finished in high gloss, because with high gloss every flaw shows.
High gloss exterior painting in Sneek: what was done
This house in Sneek was finished in autumn in two colours: RAL 7016 and RAL 9010. We chose Sikkens Express High Gloss, for good coverage and a deep shine. The window frames and doors were professionally prepared first and then finished in high gloss.
With us, fast is not the goal. We would rather wait a few dry days than put on a topcoat that does not stay good-looking. In the photos you can see the front door in anthracite, the facade with the garage door and the side facade with round and straight windows. You can read more about this colour at anthracite window frames in RAL 7016.
Painting in autumn, is that even possible?
Yes, but the season gives you less room for error. As a rule of thumb you paint outside between 5 and 30 degrees, at humidity below 85 percent and on a dry surface. In late autumn the mornings dry late and it turns damp again early. How often it works out, you can see on our page about painting weather.
High gloss makes it a bit stricter still. It shows flaws sooner than satin. A speck of dust or a run stands out at once on an anthracite door. That is why preparation counts so heavily here.
Want anthracite and white too? This is what we need
Send a photo of the front and of the side facades, and tell us how many window frames and doors there are. If there is a garage door, mention it separately. Round windows or other special shapes? Add those too, because they take more time. If you already know which RAL colour you want, add that, otherwise we will look at it at the site visit.
The condition of the old paint and the number of coats mostly set the price. Going from light to dark or the other way round sometimes needs an extra coat. The national market indication for exterior work is from €35 per m2. The access to the high windows counts too. With us you get one fixed price for the agreed work after the site visit.

How we tackled it
Inspection: does high gloss suit this woodwork?
High gloss forgives very little. At the site visit we therefore check how flat the woodwork is and what preparation it needs. The colour split comes up too: which parts go anthracite and which white, and how that sits with the brick.
Execution: prepared first, then the topcoat
Preparation first, because that is where a crisp result begins. The topcoat was then applied with Sikkens Express High Gloss, in RAL 7016 and RAL 9010. The season played its part: in autumn you pay extra attention to temperature and moisture, and to dry hours for applying the topcoat.
Handover: checking the gloss in daylight
You judge high gloss in daylight and at a low angle, because then everything shows. We go through the front door, the garage door and the windows together. That way you know the work also looks good up close.

"This craftsman delivers quality work. Very happy with the job. Agreements are kept and it was finished within the agreed time."
"I recently got the keys to my new-build flat and three craftsmen applied glass fibre wallpaper and painted everything expertly (about 150 m2)."

Frequently asked questions
Is RAL 7016 with RAL 9010 a good combination?
It is a popular, calm combination that suits a lot of brick. Whether it works for your house depends on the colour of the brick and the roof. We look at that together at the site visit.
Does high gloss stay just as beautiful in autumn?
On this project in Sneek, Sikkens Express High Gloss gave good coverage and deep shine, even in autumn. The condition is that it is dry and the temperature is right. If the weather is not right, we wait.
What does RAL actually mean?
RAL is a standard colour system with fixed codes. RAL 7016 is anthracite and RAL 9010 is an off-white. With a code like that you can be sure the colour can be matched again later.
