"Clear information about the work on our dormer. Good communication. A partly less successful result was still repaired perfectly."
Replacing Fascia Boards in Friesland, Even in Winter
On this page you see two jobs where we replaced fascia boards in Friesland. In January 2026 the worn material on one house was replaced with new plastic boards, low in maintenance and before moisture and frost did damage. In August 2025 on another house all the rotten timber was replaced and new fascia boards and barge boards were finished with Sikkens SB High Gloss.
Replacing fascia boards in Friesland: the same problem twice
We often see rot at the roof edge, and the solution is not always the same. That is why there are two jobs here. The first is a winter job from January 2026: worn boards replaced with plastic, before moisture and frost did damage. The house was then neatly finished and low in maintenance.
The second is from August 2025. There all the rotten timber was removed and completely replaced, with new fascia boards and barge boards, finished with Sikkens SB High Gloss. Different material, different look, same start: the rot has to go. You can see both jobs in the photos.
Why winter suits this job
Exterior painting is often at a standstill in winter, but fitting plastic boards depends less on dry weather. That makes winter a smart moment for jobs like this: you plan faster, have less waiting time and avoid expensive repair costs in spring. That is the winter job on this page.
For timber that has to be painted it is different. Paint needs the right temperature and dry weather. The house with Sikkens SB High Gloss was therefore a summer job. You can read more at painting in winter and preventing wood rot.
Timber or plastic: what sets the price and the choice
Take photos of the roof edge from the ground, and if you can reach it a close-up of the worst spot. Give the length roughly and say whether the barge boards are included. If you have a tall house, the scaffolding helps decide how the job goes.
Plastic is low in maintenance, timber gives a classic look that you keep painting. Length, height, material and the amount of rot set the price. The national market indication for replacing fascia boards is from €55 per running metre. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit, with the material we choose together on the quote.
From Mirns for all of Friesland
MJA Allround Bouw is based in Mirns, and you deal directly with Mohamed. We have our own scaffolding, so you pay no rental per day for it. On Google we are rated 4.8 from 25 reviews. We do a job like this ourselves too, from the demolition to the last coat.
Also look at the timber cladding and barge boards on this site, or read when to repair or replace. Do you see loose boards on your own roof edge? Send a photo through the quote request and we will see whether there is more going on.

How we tackled it
Inspection: what is behind the fascia board?
A fascia board can still look reasonable at the front while the timber behind it is finished. The photos of both houses show fascia boards with badly affected timber and a roof edge where the timber has been removed. That is why we open up a section when in doubt.
Execution: rotten timber out, new boards in
On the winter job the rotten timber was removed and new plastic boards were fitted, crisply finished. On the other house all the rotten timber was completely replaced, new fascia boards and barge boards were fitted and the whole was finished with Sikkens SB High Gloss.
Handover: a roof edge that is closed again
In the before and after photos of the winter job you see the same corner of the house, first open and then crisply finished. On the August house you see the top gable with the new barge boards. Both are protected against weather and wind again for years.

Frequently asked questions
Are plastic fascia boards better than timber?
Plastic is low in maintenance and does not need painting. Timber gives a more classic look and is often the nicest choice on older houses, but it does keep needing maintenance. We discuss that at the site visit.
Can I have fascia boards replaced in winter?
Yes, for plastic boards that is even a smart moment, with faster planning and less waiting time. If painting is needed, it depends on the weather. We tell you in advance what is possible.
What happens if I leave rotten fascia boards in place?
The moisture keeps spreading and the damage can get bigger. The chance is high that the timber behind it will be affected too. Replacing in time avoids expensive repair costs.
