"Clear information about the work on our dormer. Good communication. A partly less successful result was still repaired perfectly."
Cost of replacing fascia boards: price per metre
Count in running metres, then look at the height: with fascia boards the scaffolding matters at least as much as the wood.
- Replacing: from €55 per metre
- Scaffolding elsewhere: from €50 a day

Replacing fascia boards costs from €55 per running metre as a national market guide. Scaffolding or a lift hired elsewhere is from €50 per day, while we work with our own scaffolding at a fixed price. At MJA Allround Bouw you get one fixed price for the whole job after the site visit.
Updated on 30 October 2026What does it cost to replace fascia boards per metre?
The national market guide is from €55 per running metre. So you measure the length along the roof edge, not the square metres. These other items also often come up:
| Item | Market guide | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Replacing fascia boards | from €55 per metre | running metre |
| Wood rot | from €50 per spot | if part can stay |
| Exterior painting | from €35 per m2 | adjoining woodwork |
| Hourly rate, exterior | from €40 per hour | work by the hour |
| Scaffolding or lift elsewhere | from €50 per day | fixed price with us |
Example for a terraced house and a detached house
As a worked example on the from-price: 20 running metres of fascia board comes to from €1,100. If a detached house has 40 metres all round, the lower limit is from €2,200. That does not yet include any scaffolding.
If you hire scaffolding elsewhere at from €50 per day, a five day job adds from €250, and that grows in bad weather. That is why it pays to read this separately on a quote. With us the scaffolding is in as a fixed price for putting up and taking down.

Fascia boards sit where the weather hits hardest
Fascia boards and barge boards sit on the edge of the roof, where wind, rain and water leaking from the gutter all meet. In Friesland, with wind and damp from the south-west, that is often where you see the damage first. On farmhouses with barge boards and owl boards there is also more of that vulnerable wood than on an ordinary house.
Often the outside is still reasonable and the rot is on the back or underside, where you cannot see it from the ground. On our page about painting a farmhouse you can read what we look at extra on a property like that.
Replace, or is repair still enough?
Not every fascia board has to come out. If the rot is limited to a few spots, wood rot repair with two-part repair filler is often a perfectly good option. If the wood is soft over a long length, or the fixing is coming loose, replacing is the honest choice.
You can read how we weigh that up at repairing or replacing. When you see the old roof edge laid open, as in the photos of our jobs, you see straight away whether the base is still sound too. If we replace, we look at what is behind it straight away, so the new part has something to fix to.
Send this with your request
- photos from the ground of all sides of the house;
- an estimated length of the roof edge per side, or the dimensions of the house;
- the height, because a gable end needs something different from an extension;
- photos of the places where you see rot or peeling paint;
- whether you want to replace in wood or plastic, if you already have a preference.
If there is a shed or extension next to it, mention that, and we will include it at the site visit. You can also call or WhatsApp us on 06 3006 0558.
What pushes the price per metre up
- Height. Gable ends and ridges need more scaffolding work than a low roof edge.
- Material. Wood or plastic, and the size of the fascia board.
- Barge boards. Sloping sections and decorative ends, as on owl boards, are more work than straight pieces.
- What is behind. If the timber behind is affected too, repair comes on top.
- Finish. Priming new wood and two top coats, in the colour of the rest.
- Old paint. If there is doubt about lead, we remove the old wood differently and do not sand dry.
When is the best time to have fascia boards replaced?
Replacing itself can be done in a lot of weather, but paint on new wood wants dry weather between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. On painting weather in Friesland you can see how many suitable days there are each month. So do not plan it only for the first free week.
Even so, you do not always have to wait for summer. In our winter project the old fascia boards came off and the new ones went on in a cold spell. If there is acute rot, that is sometimes smarter than waiting another season.

Our work on roof edges
We replace fascia boards, barge boards and timber cladding ourselves, with our own scaffolding and, where needed, a cherry picker. In the project with timber cladding and barge boards you see the before and after: weathered parts out, new ones in, finished in Sikkens high gloss.
There is more about this service at fascia boards and barge boards. We are members of OnderhoudNL and a recognised training company, and the guarantee period is always stated in the quote and terms. On Google we are rated 4.8 from 25 reviews.

Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.
What does it cost to replace fascia boards per running metre?
The national market guide is from €55 per running metre. Height, material and what is behind decide what it comes to for you. With us you get a fixed price for the whole job after the site visit.
Is it better to have fascia boards done in plastic?
Plastic needs less painting, while wood often suits an older house or farmhouse better. Both are possible, and it depends on your house and what you want. At the site visit we discuss what fits your situation.
Isn't painting enough?
If the wood is still sound, painting is enough. If it is soft or loose, paint alone just seals the damp in. At the site visit we probe the wood, and then you see for yourself what is wrong.
Do I always need scaffolding?
On a low extension sometimes not, on a gable end almost always, or otherwise a cherry picker. We have our own scaffolding, with a fixed price for putting it up and taking it down. So you do not pay daily hire.
How long do new fascia boards last?
That depends on the material and the maintenance. As a guide, opaque exterior paintwork lasts 6 to 8 years, so painted wood needs attention again after that. A long-term maintenance plan (MJOP) helps to keep track of that.
