Wood rot repair costs from €50 per spot as a national market guide. What counts as a spot varies a lot: a small corner is a different matter from a whole sill. At MJA Allround Bouw we probe the wood at the site visit, and you then get a fixed price for the repair.
Updated on 30 October 2026What does it cost to have wood rot repaired?
For one spot of wood rot, the national market guide is from €50. The wood still has to be painted afterwards, so this item never stands entirely on its own. These are the amounts you meet together on a quote:
| Item | Market guide | With |
|---|---|---|
| Wood rot | from €50 per spot | repair or inset piece |
| Window frame, exterior | from €50 each | painting after repair |
| Replacing fascia boards | from €55 per metre | when the wood is spent |
| Hourly rate, exterior | from €40 per hour | work by the hour |
| Scaffolding or lift elsewhere | from €50 per day | fixed price with us |
How big is one spot?
This is where the biggest uncertainty lies. A painter who charges from €50 per spot usually means a limited area. Rot in the corner of a bottom sill can look small from outside and still run a good way through the wood.
That is why you cannot simply multiply an amount like that. As an example you can count the lower limit: six spots times from €50 comes to from €300. In practice the depth decides what it becomes. Only when the rot has been opened up do you really see how far it goes, as at the 1930s house in Langweer.

Repair, let in a new piece or replace?
There are roughly three routes, and each has a different cost picture:
- Repair. Rotten parts out back to sound wood, then two-part wood repair from Repair Care. That works well for a limited spot.
- Let in a new piece. If too much has gone, we let in a new piece of wood, so the rest of the frame can stay.
- Replace. If it runs through the whole part, a new fascia board or frame section is more honest than carrying on patching.
On repairing or replacing you can read how we weigh that up. Sometimes the dearest option is the cheapest in the long run.
Why putting it off gets expensive here
Wood rot does not stand still. As long as damp can get in, it carries on, and in Friesland that damp often arrives against the facade with wind from the south-west. One of our customers had a house that had gone ten years without maintenance, and it turned out to have a lot of wood rot. Then you are no longer dealing with a single spot.
So finding it early really helps. On spotting wood rot you can read how to check it yourself: probe the underside of frames and sills with a screwdriver. If it feels soft, it is time to have someone look.
Photos and information that help us
Send us photos of the spots, close up and from a little further away, so we can see where it is. Put a screwdriver or pen in the picture for scale. Also tell us what you have already done, because earlier filler sometimes hides what lies underneath.
Also say which side of the house it is on, when it was last painted and whether there has been leaking more than once. It helps if you show the rest of the facade straight away. Often there is more on the same side that you cannot see from the ground.
What sets the price of wood rot repair
- Depth and length. Superficial or into the core of the wood.
- Location. A sill at ground level is easier than a barge board at the ridge.
- Construction. A load-bearing part of a frame involves more than a decorative moulding.
- Old paint. On older homes the paint may contain lead, and then we work differently.
- Number of spots. Doing several spots at once on one set of scaffolding is more efficient than coming round separately.
- Finish. After repair it has to be painted, preferably in a dry period.

Planning repairs around dry days
Two-part repair and the paint on top want dry wood, and in Friesland that cannot be taken for granted every month. On painting weather in Friesland you can see how many suitable days there are each month, based on measurements at Stavoren and Leeuwarden.
If the rot is acute, we do not necessarily wait until spring. Even on a dry day outside the season, something can often be done to stop the damage, and the painting can follow later. How to keep it in good condition for longer afterwards is on preventing wood rot.
How we repair, and what you see of it
In Langweer we removed the rot back to sound wood and finished it with Sikkens Express High Gloss, in cream white and antique green. In Leeuwarden there were rotten parts in the frames and doors, which we dealt with together with BW Coatings. Afterwards you see a crisp transition, because we sand and fill until it no longer stands out.

Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.
What does it cost to repair wood rot in a window frame?
The national market guide is from €50 per spot, and painting the frame comes on top of that. What it comes to for you depends on how deep it goes. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit.
Does a frame with wood rot always have to be replaced?
No, often not. With two-part repair or an inset piece of wood you can often keep a frame. Replacing only makes more sense when the rot runs through the whole part or the construction is affected.
How do I know if I have wood rot?
Look for paint coming off and open wood joints, especially at the bottom of frames. Probe the wood with a screwdriver. If it feels soft or the tip goes in easily, something is wrong.
Is wood rot covered by the guarantee?
The guarantee period on our work is always stated in the quote and terms. With a long-term maintenance plan (MJOP), a 10 year guarantee applies. With any offer, also read what exactly falls under it, and ask us if it is not clear.
Can wood rot also be repaired in winter?
That depends on how dry the wood is and on the temperature. On a dry day something can sometimes be done to prevent it getting worse, and the finishing follows later. At the site visit we look at what is sensible in your case.
