Updated on 30 October 2026Bakhuizen: painting from the neighbouring village
Bakhuizen lies right next to our base in Mirns, in the same part of Gaasterland. That makes it a village where we can easily drop by to look at something, even if nothing is settled yet. So you do not have to wait until you have a complete plan: a question about one wall is enough to start.
Here we do exterior work on homes, barns and outbuildings, interior work and wood rot repair. One company and one contact, that is Mohamed. If your house is a bit further towards Balk, you will also find information on our page about the painter in Balk.
You do not maintain a second home from your armchair
In the south-west corner of Gaasterland, alongside village homes, stand holiday homes and chalets, and many owners live elsewhere. That brings its own problem: you see your house a few times a year, and then suddenly the paint on the west side has blistered or there is a soft spot in a window frame.
Wood in a house that is often empty is also noticed less quickly. For a holiday home it therefore works better to agree fixed moments than to wait until you see it yourself. On our page about holiday homes you can read what to look out for.

How it works when you are not there yourself
You do not need to be there for a quote, although we like a conversation about colours. You send photos of the walls and the spots that worry you, and you tell us who has a key or whether the exterior work can be done without one.
After the site visit we send our findings with photos and the fixed quote. During the work we keep you posted by WhatsApp, and at the handover we walk through it together. If you are not there yourself, that can be done with photos or with someone you name. That way you know, even from a distance, what has been done to your house.
Wood, cladding and sheds
On holiday homes and outbuildings there is a lot of wood that is not finished opaque, or that was once stained. That calls for something different from a window frame in a brick façade. Often there is no thick layer of paint coming off, but wood that has gone grey and must first be clean and dry.
With good pre-treatment, switching to opaque is often possible. Read more at painting cladding and painting a barn or garden house. If a board has really had it, we splice in a piece or replace it.
What your price in Bakhuizen mainly depends on
The condition of the wood counts most. If nothing has been done for years, more time goes into sanding, priming and repair. The number of sections plays a part too: a chalet with a lot of cladding takes more time per m2 than a brick façade with a few window frames.
Nationally, as a market guide, exterior painting starts from €35 per m2 and wood rot repair from €50 per spot. At MJA you get a fixed price after the site visit. On a home that is two years old or older, Dutch VAT on painting is 9 percent. For a holiday home we look at how that works case by case.

Why you can give us the key
If you cannot look yourself, you must be able to trust what you hear. On Google we have 4.8 from 25 reviews, and clear communication and honest advice often come up there. Customers who had been left in the lurch by another contractor also came to us.
We are a member of OnderhoudNL and a recognised training company. The guarantee period is always in the quote and conditions, so you know beforehand where you stand. Prefer to see it first? Then take a look at our work.
A fresh start again next season
If you want to be ready for next season, it helps to start early, because exterior work needs dry weather and between 5 and 30 degrees. Interior work can be done all year, and an empty holiday home is even handy for that.

Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.
Do I have to be there when you inspect the holiday home?
No, that is not necessary. We send our findings with photos, and colours can be discussed afterwards by phone or WhatsApp.
Can you paint when there are guests in the house?
Exterior work can sometimes be done, but with scaffolding and paint fumes an empty house is a lot nicer. That is why we prefer to schedule it between bookings.
Is opaque paint possible on stained wood?
Often yes, if the old coating is thoroughly clean, dry and sanded and a suitable primer goes on. At the site visit we look at whether the wood is suitable.
Does 9 percent VAT apply to my holiday home too?
That depends on the situation, so we do not commit to it just like that. The quote states per item which rate we charge.
