Painter Mirns: this is where MJA is based

Mirns, called Murns in Frisian, is not a dot on our map of the working area but our address. We set out from the Murnserdyk every day, and a job in our own village is the shortest trip of all for us.

Mirns lies in the south-west corner of Gaasterland, close to the Mirnserklif. It is a lovely place to live, but the wind comes in here over the open IJsselmeer, and most of the rain comes from the south-west. A wall on that side has it harder than a wall sheltered from the wind.

You see it first at the sills and the bottom of the doors: paint coming off, open wood joints, a soft spot when you poke it with a screwdriver. Opaque exterior paintwork lasts 6 to 8 years as a rule of thumb, but on the windward and sunny side often less. So do not only look at the front of your house, but also walk along the side that faces the water and the wind.

Because we are based here ourselves, a small job in Mirns or Bakhuizen is easy for us to fit in. A front door that looks dull, a barge board with a rotten spot, a ceiling you have wanted done for years: you do not have to have a whole house painted for that.

The bigger things we do ourselves too: complete façades, replacing timber cladding and fascia boards, and maintenance a few years ahead with a long-term maintenance plan (MJOP) for 5 or 10 years. Not sure what should come first? Then we simply tell you.

Then we come to look. Because we are close by, that site visit can often be at a time that suits you, even if you work during the day. We look at the surface, probe where needed and discuss the colours on the house itself, not just on a card.

Nationally, as a market guide, exterior painting starts from €35 per m2, an exterior window frame from €50 each and a spot of wood rot from €50. Those are not MJA prices. With us you get one fixed price after the site visit for the agreed work.
