Updated on 30 October 2026Interior work just before the keys
Anyone buying a new-build home in Heerenveen, in Skoatterwâld or elsewhere, would rather be able to move straight in. Then interior painting is in a hurry. We come by when the home is delivered or even before the key is final, look along with you and plan the work before boxes stand in the rooms. An empty home really saves time, because nothing is in the way.
Of course we also do existing homes. How that goes you can read in our interior painting. For all our other work in this town you can turn to your painter in Heerenveen.
Wallpaper-ready or paint-ready: what did your purchase contract say?
This is the question that decides the most. Paint-ready means the wall is so smooth that you can put paint on it without extra plastering or filling. Wallpaper-ready is rougher: imperfections stay visible, and you see them in raking light if you were to paint straight on. Then glass fibre wallpaper or lining paper (renovlies) is often the solution, because they smooth the wall and hide small cracks.
One of our customers had a new-build apartment of 150 m2 fitted with glass fibre wallpaper and wall painting. That is an approach that works well on wallpaper-ready walls. You can read more under preparing walls in new-build.

Shrinkage cracks in the first year
A new house still has to dry out and settle. In the first year small shrinkage cracks can appear, especially at corners and where ceiling and wall meet. That is usually no disaster. But it does mean that a crisply painted corner can later show a hairline crack, especially in a dark colour.
Glass fibre wallpaper absorbs that better than paint alone. Want the colour on as soon as possible and touch up later? That is possible too, we then agree it separately. In the move-in ready new-build project you can see what such a home looks like after handover.
Dutch VAT on new-build: watch the two years
Here a new-build home in Heerenveen really makes a difference. On painting work on a home under two years old after first occupation you pay 21 percent Dutch VAT, after that 9 percent. In large rooms that can add up. Want to wait until those two years are over? That is often not handy, because you want to be in a finished house right now. But it is good to know.
Wallpaper and carpentry may also fall under a different rate, so we list that item by item on the quote. Read more under Dutch VAT on painting work. To be sure, also ask your own accountant or the tax authority what applies to your situation.
Send your floor plan along
With the floor plan of the home from the builder we are already a long way. Also let us know:
- how the walls were delivered, wallpaper-ready or paint-ready
- which rooms you want done and which colours you have in mind
- the key date and your moving date
- whether floors are already laid or the kitchen and bathroom are installed
Are you doing jobs on floors and kitchen yourself? Then preferably plan the painting before the floor. A clean, empty home is the quickest to work in and saves you money.
Why the price in new-build is often simple
Without old paint layers and with many identical spaces, new-build is easy to oversee. The choice of wallpaper or paint makes the biggest difference. Nationally the market cites from €15 per m2 for walls, from €18 per m2 for ceilings and from €15 per m2 for applying lining paper (renovlies) or glass fibre. That is a market indication, not an MJA price. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit.
If you have an older home in Heerenveen, the surface may be what increases the work. So we always look at that before a quote comes.

Not new-build? We do older houses too
Not everyone searching here has just received the keys. In the older streets of Heerenveen and towards Nijehaske there are houses with rooms that have been painted over for decades, and there the work starts differently: old wallpaper off, cracks filled and often a layer of lining paper to even out the wall again.
In such a house also watch for damp low in the wall. Heerenveen is built on peat and a damp crawl space can show at the bottom of walls and at skirting. You don't solve that with paint, and we say so. If it is dry, it is simply nice work, and you are as free in colour there as in a new home.

Frequently asked questions
The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.
Can a new-build home be painted straight away?
Yes, if the walls are properly dry. New walls absorb strongly, so the first coat must be matched to that. We look at it at the site visit and then advise you honestly.
Do I have to choose between glass fibre wallpaper and paint?
Wallpaper-ready walls often need glass fibre or lining paper (renovlies) to become crisp. Paint-ready walls don't necessarily. It is mostly a choice between how crisp you want it and what it costs.
Can you be finished before the move?
Often yes, if you get in touch in good time. Give us your key date and moving date, and we will see whether it fits. We say honestly if it gets too tight.
Can I do a coat of wall paint myself to save money?
That is possible, but bear in mind that the base coat has to seal absorbent walls properly. If you do it yourself and it doesn't work out, we are happy to carry on from there. Tell us in advance.
