In short

MJA Allround Bouw paints exteriors throughout Heerenveen, with its own scaffolding and a cherry picker where needed. The gable end, barge boards and fascia boards are most of the work here because they are hard to assess from the ground. Market prices start nationally from €35 per m2; with us you get a fixed price after the site visit.

The top of the facade decides the job in Heerenveen

From below a facade often still looks fine. Up at the ridge you then see the cracked paint on the barge board, the open joint at the fascia board or the frame in the gable that nobody has looked at up close for years. That is why in Heerenveen we start at the highest points, and only then at the windows on the ground floor.

The order of the work itself follows our fixed exterior painting: degreasing, sanding, repairing, priming, filling, sealing and two top coats. What else is going on in this town, indoors as well, you can find under your painter in Heerenveen. We drive some 32 km as the crow flies from Mirns for it.

Built on peat: frames that move with the ground

Heerenveen owes its name and shape to peat extraction. Around 1550 the Friese Compagnie began digging peat here, and the Compagnonsvaart is a remnant of that. You still notice that soft ground on older buildings now and then. If a facade has moved a little over the years, frames don't always stand square any more and joints pull open.

Paint can't close a crack like that. So we first check whether a seam is still moving, rout out open joints and seal or repair them before any primer goes on. If there is already soft wood behind the crack, we probe through with a screwdriver and the rot comes out.

What a white gable demands of your preparation

In Heerenveen we delivered a home with a gable end in white, with white frames, to be seen in the gable end project. White seems the easy choice, but it forgives little. Filler spots that aren't sanded crisp show up as soon as the low sun sweeps along the facade, and in the gable you look straight at them from the street.

That is why we sand through ascending grits, 150, 180 and 240, and then apply two top coats. High gloss or satin is a real choice there: high gloss is fresher, but shows imperfections sooner. We wrote a separate piece on that difference: high gloss or satin.

Scaffolding or cherry picker: what suits your address

We have our own scaffolding equipment with a fixed price for putting it up and taking it down. No hire, no surprises if a week of rain holds up the work. Hiring elsewhere runs from €50 per day as a market indication, and you usually only see that on the final invoice.

For a detached home with room on the yard, a cherry picker sometimes comes into play too. If your house is in a row with a narrow back path, scaffolding is usually the only way. At the site visit we assess that on the spot, and in our piece on painting at height you can read what we look for.

Skoatterwâld and other young neighbourhoods: the first paint job

Not all of Heerenveen is old. In newer neighbourhoods like Skoatterwâld, the first paint job is now coming into view. Rot is rarely the issue there. It is about sealant seams coming loose, edges of fascia boards weathering and factory-finished wood losing its gloss after years.

If you start in time, cleaning, light sanding and a fresh top coat are often all it takes. That keeps a first job small. Mind the Dutch VAT: on a home under two years old after first occupation, 21 percent applies, after that 9 percent on the painting. For that first job it can make just the difference.

Send us the top, not just the front

A remote quote doesn't exist, but good photos make the site visit shorter. Take them with your phone if need be, from across the street or from the attic:

  • the top of each gable and the barge boards
  • fascia boards and dormer, the sides too
  • places where paint is flaking or wood feels soft
  • the space beside and behind your house for the scaffolding
  • year of construction and the last time it was painted

Measurements are a welcome bonus, estimates are fine too.

Towards Oranjewoud the work changes

Within this town there is another big difference. In the centre and the older streets the houses stand close together, and there the scaffolding spot is the puzzle. Towards Oranjewoud and Oudeschoot it gets greener, with more detached houses, tall trees and a driveway where the cherry picker does fit.

Under those trees a facade dries more slowly and green growth builds up sooner. That has to come off completely first, because paint won't bond to it. A home on the open edge of the town suffers less from that, but catches more wind. So at every site visit we look at which side of your house takes the most punishment, and start there.

Where the price in Heerenveen comes from

As a national market indication, exterior painting starts from €35 per m2, an exterior frame from €50 each and replacing fascia boards from €55 per running metre. Those are not MJA prices. With us you get a fixed price after the site visit. The biggest differences come from the height, the amount of repaired wood and how long ago the last job was.

Mohamed comes to look himself, discusses the colours on site and walks through everything with you at handover. On Google we have 4.8 from 25 reviews and Trustoo named us Top Pro 2025. Curious what your facade needs? Request a site visit via the quote page.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most often, with an honest answer.

My gable is hard to reach, is it still possible?

Usually yes. With our own scaffolding or a cherry picker we reach most gable tops. If it is really tight beside your house, we discuss at the site visit what is possible.

How can I see for myself whether my barge boards are due?

Look with binoculars or a photo from the attic for cracks, peeling paint and dark spots at the seams. If you see that, send the photo. We do the probing with a screwdriver, because you need scaffolding for that.

Is white paint really harder than a dark colour?

White shows imperfections and dirt sooner, especially in high gloss. Dark heats up more in the sun, so wood moves more. Both can work well as long as the preparation is right.

Do you also work on semi-detached houses together with the neighbours?

Yes, that can be handy, because one scaffold for two homes saves putting it up twice. Each owner gets their own fixed quote. Let us know in your request that the neighbours are joining.

Wondering what your paintwork will cost?

Send your plans and a few photos. Mohamed takes a look and you get a fixed quote.
